When General David Petraeus took over as the U.S. commander in Iraq, the war on terror and the fight to protect, and provide, freedom had many detractors. Petraeus served as a commander and a leader for nearly two years, and I ask you to join me to thank General Petraeus. Earlier this week, General Petraeus stepped down from his duties after serving 20 months with honor and integrity. General Ray Odierno will be taking over these duties. Today marks the seventh anniversary of the September 11th attacks. That day will be recorded as one of the most tragic and horrific in the history of our nation; a day when we once again lost our innocence.
