Congressman Mike Conaway today was recognized for his outstanding pro-taxpayer voting record last year. The 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union (NTU), a nonpartisan citizen group, has announced that Conaway is among only a few dozen 2009 “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” recipients out of the entire House of Representatives and Senate. Conaway Earns Right to Return to Washington
With the early voting period starting Tuesday for the March 2 primary, it's time for Midlanders to start making up their minds about who they are willing to put their trust in.
There are several key races that will affect the future of Texas and West Texas in particular. One such race comes for the District 11 congressional seat where Rep. Mike Conaway faces two challengers in San Angelo businessman Chris Younts and Al Cowan, an Austin businessman who resides in Llano County. Click Here to Read the Rest of This Post»

Republicans have significantly narrowed the gap with Democrats on who is trusted to deal with the country's problems and have sharply reduced several of President Obama's main political advantages, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The survey paints a portrait of a restless and dissatisfied electorate at the beginning of a critical election year. More than seven in 10 Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing, and as many say they're inclined to look for new congressional representation as said so in 1994 and 2006, the last times that control of Congress shifted. It's almost been a year since the stimulus and we still have not seen the job creation that Obama promised. The news media is finally catching on that the majority of the money was swallowed by bureaucrats in Washington. CNN just released a poll showing 3 out 4 Americans believe the stimulus money was wasted.

Republican Scott Brown won a stunning victory last night to fill Senator Ted Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts. His election deprives the Democrats of a supermajority and will force Democrats to work with Republicans on all major issues. The leftist agenda that began last year is coming to a halt and we have the people of this country who have stood up for freedom from government to thank.

House and Senate Democrats still have major differences to iron out as they race to send President Barack Obama health care reform before his State of the Union address — not the least of which is whether they can even meet his latest deadline.
Will they make it? Maybe, maybe not. Senate Democrats are more optimistic than their House colleagues. Click Here to Read the Rest of This Post»

By now, I'm sure you have all heard about the many problems with the Democrats' economic stimulus package. It is filled with wasteful government spending, and a majority of the projects will not take effect until after 2010. Of greatest concern to me, however, is the burden we are placing on future generations. Click Here to Read the Rest of This Post»

This week I had the honor of accompanying former President Bush from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland to a "Welcome Home" rally in Midland. Traveling with my old friend and one of America's greatest patriots will be a memory I cherish forever. The reception of people in the district was warm and appreciative, which stood in stark contrast to the cold temperatures and chilly sendoff in Washington, D.C.
